ANGEL FIRE

Recently Cheryl informed me that any father worth his salt takes his kids fishing, so I loaded everyone up in the trusty minivan and set off for Angel Fire, NM 4 hours away. I used google maps to choose the route. Most of the roads where two lane out in the middle of no where. We were within 20 miles of our destination when the road turned to a single lane dirt road. We decided that google was a good resource and set out with confidence. Unfortunately, the road got worse as we climbed through the mountains.
We saw great views and made it in one piece. The lake was beautiful.

Getting the fishing poles ready for the three older kids took awhile, they could hardly contain their excitement.

Emily found a good use for the net.

It didn't take long for Hailey to get a bite.

Then it was Seth's turn.

Sam only caught his knee, which the whole lake heard about as he danced around screaming.

The fish stopped biting in this spot so Hailey lead us to the other side of the lake.

Emily spent most of the day crying, or maybe she knew what we were about to do to the fish.

Hailey and Seth enjoyed helping clean the fish, but said it was gross.

Some of the locals were aghast that we took the dirt mountain pass to get here and strongly recommended an alternate route home, but we were glutton for punishment. On the way back we saw a bear and a mule deer. Look in the middle of the photos, top one is the bear, next the deer.

We made it out without any problems, in fact on the dirt road we passed two motorcycles, another minivan and a car. All the way home we were glad we took the road because we got to see the bear and I felt like I had conquered the road. Unfortunately Cheryl called me at work on Monday with a flat tire. Hey, it was still worth it!
